Advanced measuring and control software solutions with intelligent display and monitoring systems. From single-channel readouts to multi-channel SPC workstations, the digital brain behind every PFL measurement system.
Every PFL measurement solution, whether a simple air plug on a shop floor or a multi-station automated inspection cell, requires electronics to convert, display, process, and communicate measurement data. Our Displays & Software product line is the intelligence layer that transforms raw sensor signals into actionable quality information.
PFL provides a complete signal chain: air converters that transform pneumatic back-pressure into proportional analog signals, air-to-electronic converters that bridge pneumatic and digital worlds, display units with touch screen HMI for real-time visualization, and SPC software that turns measurement data into statistical process control, Cp/Cpk calculations, control charts, histograms, and production reports.
For automated systems, our PLC-based control software manages entire measurement cycles: part detection, probe actuation sequencing, multi-channel data acquisition, OK/NOK sorting decisions, and closed-loop feedback to upstream CNC machines via Profinet, EtherNet/IP, or Modbus protocols.
PFL's software and display systems are not off-the-shelf generic tools, they are purpose-built for dimensional metrology, designed by engineers who understand that a bore diameter displayed in microns demands different visualization and analysis than a temperature reading or a weight measurement.
Simultaneous data collection from multiple air gauging channels and electronic probes in a single measurement cycle. Each channel independently configured for range, resolution, and tolerance limits.
Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk calculated in real time. X-bar/R charts, histograms, trend analysis, and control limit monitoring. Automatic alerts when process capability falls below threshold.
Bargraph column displays with color-coded tolerance zones: green (in-tolerance), yellow (approaching limit), red (out-of-tolerance). Instant operator feedback, no interpretation needed.
Measurement data exported to plant-wide quality systems: Q-DAS compatible format, CSV, database connectivity. Every measurement timestamped with part ID for full traceability.
Intuitive HMI panels designed for shop floor operators wearing gloves. Large buttons, clear graphics, guided measurement sequences that eliminate operator errors.
Industrial communication via Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, RS-232, USB. Seamless integration with Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, and other PLC platforms.

Talk to Our EngineersAn air converter transforms the pneumatic back-pressure signal generated by an air plug or air ring into an electrical signal that can be processed by a display unit, PLC, or computer. When air flows through the nozzles of an air plug inside a bore, the back-pressure changes proportionally to the gap between the nozzle and the workpiece surface. This pressure change, typically just a few millibar — needs to be converted into a voltage (0–10V) or current (4–20mA) signal for digital processing. Without an air converter, you cannot display, record, or act on air gauging measurements electronically.
A standard air converter outputs an analog electrical signal (voltage or current) proportional to the pneumatic pressure, it's a simple transducer. An air-to-electronic converter goes further: it digitizes the signal internally, applies linearization and calibration corrections, and outputs a digital data stream ready for direct input to a PLC or industrial PC. The air-to-electronic converter eliminates the analog-to-digital conversion step in the downstream electronics, resulting in a cleaner signal chain with less noise and higher accuracy in automated systems.
This depends on the display unit model. Compact single-channel units handle 1–2 probes or air gauging channels, ideal for simple manual applications. Mid-range units support 4–8 channels with simultaneous bargraph display. Multi-channel industrial workstations can process up to 32 measurement characteristics simultaneously, with formula calculations between channels (e.g., average diameter from 2 jets, ovality from max-min, taper from 2 diameter measurements at different heights). PFL engineers will recommend the right configuration based on your specific application.
PFL's SPC software provides comprehensive statistical process control: Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk (process capability and performance indices), X-bar/R control charts (average and range), histograms with normal distribution overlay, trend/run charts for time-series visualization, and scatter diagrams for correlation analysis between features. Configurable control limits (UCL/LCL) with automatic out-of-control alerts. Batch management separates data by production lot, shift, or machine. Western Electric rules and Nelson rules can be applied for pattern detection.
Yes. This is called closed-loop manufacturing. PFL's PLC control software measures the part, calculates the deviation from nominal, computes the required tool offset correction, and transmits it back to the upstream CNC machine — automatically. The CNC adjusts its tool position to keep the machining process centered on nominal without operator intervention. Communication is via Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, or discrete I/O depending on the CNC controller brand. This capability reduces scrap, eliminates manual adjustments, and enables extended unattended operation.
Yes. PRETEC electronic probes are half-bridge, TESA-compatible, they work with any display or electronics that accept the standard half-bridge inductive probe interface. Conversely, PFL display units accept input from PRETEC probes as well as probes from TESA, Mahr, Heidenhain, Solartron, Sylvac, and other manufacturers using standard electrical interfaces. PRETEC probes even feature a switchable bridge inside the connector, allowing field conversion between bridge configurations without replacing the probe.
Yes. PFL software supports data export in AQDEF format (Q-DAS compatible), CSV files, and direct database connectivity. Every measurement is stored with a timestamp, part ID (via barcode or RFID), operator ID, batch number, and machine reference. Data can be transferred via USB, network share, or real-time TCP/IP connection to plant-level quality management systems like QS-STAT, PiWeb, ENACT, or InfinityQS. This ensures full measurement traceability for automotive (IATF 16949) and medical device (ISO 13485) quality requirements.
PFL display units offer multiple visualization modes: bargraph columns with color-coded tolerance zones (green/yellow/red) for instant visual feedback, numerical readout with configurable decimal resolution, graphical trend showing measurement history over time, multi-feature overview displaying all characteristics simultaneously, and classification mode for sorting parts into tolerance classes. Operators can switch between modes via touch screen. For automated systems, the display can show cycle status, batch statistics, and last-measurement summary.
Yes. PFL's service department regularly upgrades older systems: replacing analog column displays with digital touch screen panels, adding SPC data acquisition to benches that previously had only go/no-go indication, upgrading PLC controllers to current models with industrial Ethernet connectivity, and adding communication interfaces for plant network integration. Each upgrade is engineered specifically for your existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure, minimizing downtime and maximizing the return on your original equipment investment.
Yes. PFL display units are designed for industrial use. Housings are machined from solid aluminum for maximum rigidity and heat dissipation. Front panels are sealed with integral polyester or tempered glass overlays that protect against cutting oil, coolant splash, metal chips, and cleaning solvents. Touch screens are designed for gloved-hand operation. Operating temperature range is typically 5–45°C. IP-rated enclosures are available for particularly harsh environments. The electronics are designed to resist electrical noise from nearby CNC machines, inverter drives, and welding equipment.
