Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about PFL's service and support capabilities.

Need service support now?

Contact Service Team
What does a maintenance contract include?

A typical PFL maintenance contract includes periodic preventive maintenance visits (annually or semi-annually), calibration verification, wear part inspection and replacement, software updates, and priority access to technical support. The scope and frequency are tailored to your equipment type and production intensity. Each visit includes a service report documenting all findings and actions taken.

How quickly can you deliver spare parts?

We maintain stock of critical spare parts for all current PFL and PRETEC products. Standard parts (probes, seals, connectors, cables) are typically shipped within 24–48 hours. Custom components or parts for older systems may require 1–2 weeks. Maintenance contract holders receive priority processing and preferential pricing on all spare parts.

Can you calibrate equipment from other manufacturers?

Our calibration services are primarily focused on PFL and PRETEC instruments and systems. However, through our partnerships with accredited calibration laboratories, we can arrange calibration of complementary equipment. Contact us with your specific requirements and we'll advise on the best approach.

Do you offer remote technical support?

Yes. For systems with PLC control and network connectivity, we can perform remote diagnostics to identify and often resolve software-related issues without an on-site visit. This significantly reduces downtime for many common issues. Remote support is included as standard for maintenance contract holders and available on request for all customers.

Can you upgrade our older PFL equipment?

Yes. We regularly upgrade and retrofit older PFL systems. Common upgrades include: replacing analog displays with digital touch screens, adding SPC data acquisition to benches that previously had none, upgrading PLC controllers to current models, and adding communication interfaces for production line integration. Each upgrade is engineered specifically for your existing equipment.

What training programs do you offer?

Training programs are tailored to your specific equipment and operator skill level. Standard programs cover: system operation and daily use, calibration verification procedures, basic troubleshooting and error code interpretation, preventive maintenance routines, and measurement best practices. Training is conducted at your facility by PFL engineers with hands-on production experience. Documentation and reference materials are provided.

How do feasibility studies work?

A feasibility study typically involves: reviewing your part drawings and tolerance requirements, evaluating the measurement challenge (which features, what accuracy, what cycle time), recommending the optimal technology (air gauging, electronic probes, or combination), and providing a preliminary concept with expected performance. For complex applications, we may request sample parts for testing at our facility. The study results form the basis for a formal project proposal.

Where are PFL service engineers located?

PFL has service and engineering personnel in five countries: Switzerland (headquarters), France, Romania, Serbia, and Slovakia. This geographic coverage ensures that most European customers have access to local technical support. Service visits are coordinated through your nearest PFL office, and our engineers travel to customer facilities across Europe for installation, commissioning, and on-site support.
